Yu Quin suffered from Diabetes (Type 2) for 16 years, while relying on various drugs and insulin for treatment. For the first 5 years of her disease she depended mainly on insulin. Generally she was taking 24 units in the morning and 16 units in the evening, but her blood sugar level still remained quite high. During this time her complications worsened. Her vision blurred, she was always thirsty but had dry and hard stools. She developed numbness in her lower legs, and had severe cramps at night. In October of 1998 her little toe began to fester, after several weeks in the hospital hoping for treatment the doctor advised that it be cut off to prevent spreading up the leg. Yu Quin then began treatment with Zutrol. After only a few weeks she felt much better and her complications greatly decreased. Her blood sugar levels went from 15.3 m mol/L to 7.44 m mol/L. She then gradually reduced her insulin injections and stopped her other medications altogether. She still continues to take Zutrol and no longer suffers from complications.
